"News In A Flash!": Quick Game Show Updates (Part 5)


In this week’s article, I am going to spotlight some of the most recent game show headlines in 200 characters or less, similar to Twitter. From the premiere of CW's Oh Sit! to big changes for the new season of Family Game Night, I'm sure that you will enjoy reading some of the latest game show news updates. Enjoy! 


Former host Bill Rafferty died Saturday morning at the age 68. He is more famously known for hosting Blockbusters in 1987 and Card Sharks in 1986-1987, and serving as a panelist on a few game shows.

The Price Is Right Live! stage show is headed to the Dacotah Event Center in Minnesota to give people a chance to win big cash and prizes. Shows will be held on August 17-19 and tickets are $25. 


The obstacle course game show Oh Sit! premieres this week on The CW. Stay tuned as Jamie Kennedy hosts this fun-filled, extreme musical chair-themed game show on Wednesday, August 15 at 8:00pm.

The Price Is Right is starting a male model search where viewers will have a chance to vote for the potential candidates online. The winner will get to be a male model for a week of shows in October.


Last season, Let’s Make a Deal “zonked” 245 traders and taped 175 episodes. Check out memorable clips from the last season on CBS.com today.

Last week, Thursday’s new episode of Wipeout pulled 4.83 million viewers, an increase from last week’s viewership rating.

Although this is not game show news, B&C reported that the 2012 London Summer Olympics was the most-watched television event in U.S. history, reaching over 219 million viewers over the 17-day period. 

GSN released a clip of a round played on The Pyramid. Judging from the clip, I think it’s safe to say that GSN has redeemed themselves, in terms of reviving game shows. Check it out on YouTube


A few aesthetic changes will be made to the upcoming 30th season of Wheel of Fortune, including the borders being removed around the scoreboards and a new opening theme. 

GSN has renewed The Newlywed Game by ordering 65 episodes for the new season. This season will see slight set changes, the return of the 25-point bonus question, and an in-game replay feature. 


The Hub’s Family Game Night has made some dramatic changes in the show’s format for the third season including a new endgame, the removal of a few games, and the number of families competing.

SpikeTV's most recent original game show Repo Games will be on hiatus until September 18 at its normal time at 11:30pm EST.


The new Spanish revival of Minute To Win It (Minuto Para Ganar) premiered tonight at 7:00pm on MundoFOX. The series is hosted by Marco Antonio Regil.

£75,000 U.K. Millionaire winner Dawn Harkins reunited with her son, whom she had adopted 45 years ago. She used her winnings to fly 10,000 miles to Brisbane, Australia to find her son Glyn.
