Jeopardy’s 2017 Teachers Tournament $100,000 Finals Begins Tonight
Much like every Jeopardy! tournament, this one did not disappoint. Jeopardy’s 2017 Teachers Tournament will soon come to a close within the next two days as we have reached the competition’s two-day finals beginning today. David Clemmons, an 11th grade U.S. history teacher from Fort Worth, TX; Nan Cohen, a high school English teacher from Van Nuys, CA; and Mary Parker, a high school French and English teacher from Rogers, AK., are the three finalists who will be playing for the $100,000 grand prize plus a spot in the show’s annual Tournament of Champions on today’s and Friday’s shows. This year’s teacher’s tournament has been incredible to watch from the start of last Monday’s first quarterfinal game. In the eight games played thus far, we have yet to see a runaway game, where a contestant mathematically eliminated their opponents heading into Final Jeopardy by posting an insurmountable score. Even Alex Trebek has praised the overall superb performance of gameplay throughout the two-week event by saying at the top of yesterday’s episode, “[T]he quality of play in this year’s Teachers Tournament has been exceptional – much better than any tournament I can recall in recent memory.”

TBS Revives "The Joker's Wild" With Snoop Dogg To Host
It looks like revivals are trending upward as each day passes, from the return of hit sitcoms like Will & Grace and Roseanne to ABC’s decision to bring back American Idol for another season. This morning, TBS announced its decision to revive The Joker’s Wild later this year during its annual upfront presentation. The network has tapped Snoop Dogg to host the upcoming game show. Produced by Sony Pictures TV in association with Turner’s Studio T, the revamped version of The Joker’s Wild will be created in Snoop Dogg’s “own casino” with a comedic angle and mini-games will be played in lieu of trivia questions (or definitions if you remember the 90s reboot). Aside from the series’ iconic, enlarged slot machine; playing cards and giant dice will also be introduced in this version.
Snoop Dogg and $100,000 Pyramid host Michael Strahan will serve as the executive producers along with SMAC’s Constance Schwartz-Morin, Snoopadelic Films’ Ted Chung and Vincent Rubino.

New Syndicated Game Show “iWitness” Set To Debut July 10
While Celebrity Name Game is (unfortunately) on its way out this year, it looks a new game show could be taking its place this summer. Judge Judy Sheindlin, the queen of the television courtroom, has created the latest game show to hit the syndicated circuit: iWitness (tentative title). Hosted by former Wipeout commentator John Henson, the show three contestants will be engaged in a competitive test of observation and recall by watching a series of videos and images for a chance to advance to the end game worth $20,000. The half-hour series is produced by Sheindlin’s production company, Queen Bee Productions, FremantleMedia North America and Debmar Mercury. Famed game show producer Scott St. John serves as the showrunner of iWitness.
The show launches its six-week test on select FOX affiliate stations in top markets beginning July 10. Should the test run prove to be a success, FremantleMedia NA and Debmar Mercury may launch the show nationally in fall 2018. FremantleMedia and Debmar Mercury would respectively handle international and domestic distribution.
Let’s hope this will be a better memory-based game show than GSN’s Instant Recall.

VH1 Renews "Hip Hop Squares" For A Second Season
About a few days before the revived series wraps up its first season on the network, VH1 announced its decision to order an additional season of Hip Hop Squares. The decision stems from the show averaging healthy ratings, including the premiere episode attracting 3.2 million total viewers. It has ranked as the top non-sports cable show in its time period with
persons 18-34 and VH1’s highest-rate new series in a year. The new edition of Hip Hop Squares is executive produced by Ice Cube and hosted by DeRay Davis. The show wraps up its first season tonight at 9:00pm and 9:30pm ET with rappers Fat Joe and French Montana squaring off (no pun intended) in the first episode and singing trios Bell Biv DeVoe and SWV compete against each other in the second.

“Cash Cab” Returns To Discovery Channel This Year
The network announced its decision to revive the hit cable game show, which originally ran for 10 seasons from 2005-2012, a couple hours ago. Comedian David Steinberg will executive produce the new season and Lion USA with Norton Productions will return to produce the show. The ambush-style game show has a cab pick up unexpected passengers and engage them in a general knowledge trivia game where they could earn hundreds (sometimes thousands) of dollars in cash for correct answers or risk being kicked to the curb with nothing. The new season debuts later this year and features celebrities joining in on the fun of driving the Cash Cab and picking up passengers. Although stand-up comedian Ben Bailey originally hosted the series – and won three Daytime Emmys for Outstanding Game Show Host in the process – no permanent host has been named yet for the revived series. GSN 2017 Upfront Recap
For this year’s upfront presentation, the network decided to streamline the event by forgoing the live annual breakfast upfront session, which featured Rebecca Romijn, RuPaul and Donald Faison last year, and simply honed its focus on discussing statistics that expand beyond gender and age and demographics. Some of the data metrics John Zaccario, executive VP of advertising sales and CMO, paid particular attention to include how GSN has fared against other ad-supported cable channels in the last five years in length of tune and frequency of tune (how long audiences watch the network in one sitting and how often viewers watch). GSN is ranked among the top 10 cable entertainment networks in the A25-54 demo for average spin per buyer in department stores, fast food, mass merchandiser, physical retail stores and wireless. Listed below are a couple more noteworthy statistical highlights concerning the network’s performance. Sunday, March 12, 2017
Third Season of “Hip Hop Squares” To Premiere Monday, March 13 on VH1
After taking a four-year hiatus, Hip Hop Squares is set to return for a brand new, completely revamped series tomorrow at 9:00pm and 9:30pm ET. A lot of changes are coming down the pike for Hip Hop Squares including the show moving from New York to Los Angeles, a brand new set, a new host in former frequent HHS panelist DeRay Davis and the new series is executive produced by Ice Cube. The other major change that has seemingly occurred in this series is that two celebrities will compete on each episode instead of civilian contestants. Models Tyson Beckford will be facing Don Benjamin in the first episode and husband/wife Ray J and Princess Love will be going head-to-head against each other in the second episode. Check out a special five-minute preview of the premiere episode on VH1.com and stay tuned for the star-studded, exciting, lively and unpredictable third season of Hip Hop Squares starting tomorrow on VH1.

NBC Orders “Ellen’s Game of Games”
NBC has officially given the green light to Ellen DeGeneres’ new series, Ellen’s Game of Games, with a six-episode order. The primetime game show, produced by Warner Horizon Television, is comprised of games featured on Ellen’s daytime talk show including What’s In The Box?, Know Or Go? and Heads Up! – the latter which was picked up as a series on HLN only to be shelved months later. DeGeneres will serve as host and as an executive producer through her studio-based production company A Very Good Production. Mary Connelly, Ed Glavin, Andy Lassner, Kevin Leman, Jeff Kleeman and David A. Hurwitz will also serve as executive producers. Excited for her new primetime series, DeGeneres said, “We’re pulling out all the stops — gigantic sets, hilarious games. It’s going to be like a combination of ‘American Ninja Warrior,’ ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race,’ and a water park. OK, it’s nothing like that, but you should still watch.” No word yet on when the show premieres.
