The Scuttlebutt On GSN Part Six: GSN Games Gears Up For Holidays and "Mind of a Man" & "It Takes A Church" Debut in 2014

To say that the year 2013 was pretty good one for GSN would be an understatement. This year, the 21-year old network improved its daytime schedule by acquiring the rights to air classic favorites including Sale of The Century, earlier episodes of Press Your Luck and Shop ’Til You Drop and added two great, original game shows to its primetime lineup with the Minute To Win It revival and the two seasons of the American rendition of The Chase. In 2014, GSN will attempt to extend its streak of creating successful original programming (excluding the predicted, ill-fated Family Trade) with the January premiere of the new survey game show Mind Of A Man and the new dating reality show It Takes A Church. Before we take a brief look at the two upcoming shows, let’s take a look at how GSN Games is preparing for the holiday season.

A GSN Games Christmas

GSN Games has decked their halls with bells and holly by upgrading the Android version of GSN Casino to feature a snowy home screen and winter-themed games for the mobile app, Facebook app and GSN.com. The 3.3 update of GSN Casino is free to download in the Google Play store and includes the wintertime user interface and a seasonal update of Video Bingo Holiday Edition. Also available on GSN.com and the Games by GSN Facebook app along with Video Bingo is the new slots game Christmas in Vegas. One of the highlights of the new game is the Christmas Bonus Round, where you could win Bonus Tokens by choosing/unwrapping up to six presents. Additionally, in the spirit of giving, GSN Games is raising money for Toys For Tots in numerous ways including players cashing in Oodles for $5 and $10 donations, GSN Cash Games donating 10% of entry fees from select tournaments and in 10% of Token purchases today in the Facebook app will be donated to Toys For Tots as well. Log in to GSN and  don’t miss out on your chance to give and receive by playing some of your favorite online games.

Mind of a Man January 2014 Premiere

Beginning early next year, GSN will debut its newest original game show  Mind of a Man. Hosted by DeRay Davis, the series will have two female contestants attempting to predict what men are really thinking when asked certain questions with a three-celebrity panel at their side to help them make their decision. Special guest star panelists include Loni Love, Kim Whitley, Gary Owen and Ted Lange, who’s famously known for his starring role on The Love Boat. The contestant with the most cash at the end of three rounds will have a chance to play the Bonus Round with a celebrity partner for a shot at $10,000. From what I have seen, Mind of a Man looks like an engaging and entertaining show to watch. This show’s emphasis on  light-hearted and casual comedy will fit well within the dynamic of GSN’s current lineup of active, original programming. I will post a full review of the show on the week of its debut and stay tuned for the series premiere of Mind of a Man Wednesday, January 8 at 8:00pm ET on GSN.

It Takes a Church To Debut Mid-2014

This past Tuesday, GSN green-lit production for and has ordered eight one-hour episodes of a new reality show called It Takes A Church. The upcoming dating series will be hosted by singer-songwriter Natalie Grant and each episode will feature members of a Christian congregation trying to find the perfect romantic partner for a preselected single person. At the end of the competition, the single bachelor(ette) will have to choose their favorite partner. The member of the congregation who recommended the match will receive a donation for their church.

In terms of predicting It Takes A Church’s success on GSN, this one is a bit of a toss-up.  On one hand, GSN has failed in every attempt to create a  successful reality show that has lasted for more than one season; while on the other hand, the network has established a great religious fan base that has kept The American Bible Challenge alive for three seasons thus far. Also, taking into consideration that relationship/dating-themed original game shows usually last about three seasons on average, I have faith (no pun intended) that It Takes A Church will be the first GSN reality show to get over the “second season renewal” hump. It Takes A Church, produced by Authentic Entertainment, is scheduled to debut mid-2014.
