Happy Friday, game show fans! Today's early afternoon updates will take a look at what international and U.S. television audiences can look forward to today, tomorrow, next week and further in the future. Some of the game show news headlines include audience ticket and casting call information for Celebrity Name Game, tonight's series finale of Celebrity 15 to 1 and the upcoming series premieres of Tipping Point: Lucky Stars and The Million Pound Drop.
"Celebrity Name Game" Updates
The Courtney Cox/David Arquette-produced game show Celebrity Name Game is beginning to pickup steam as the show’s first couple of tapings will occur this Saturday, June 28. The tapings are scheduled for 2:15pm and 5:00pm PDT. If you are interested in attending a taping or two, go to On Camera Audiences to apply. If you want to audition to become a contestant on the show and try your luck at winning $20,000, you can apply through Reality Wanted with your name, age, phone number, email address, occupation, current city and a current photo of yourself. The casting call ends October 24.
The series finale of the revival of one of the most mentally challenging quiz shows ever conceived in the U.K. will air tonight at 8:00pm GMT (3:00pm EDT) on Channel 4. This week’s Celebrity 15 To 1 contestants include comedian and 8 Out Of 10 Cats host Jimmy Carr, Countdown hostess and math whiz Rachel Riley, celebrity chef Paul Hollywood and Dr. Pixie McKenna. Judging by how the celebrity winners have played the final few questions during the final round, tonight’s winner should win at least £21,000 for their charity. Who will emerge victorious in the final game of the series? That question will be answered later this evening.
After you have tuned in to Celebrity 15 to 1, check out a new, fun-filled episode of 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown at 9:00pm GMT (4:00pm EDT) on the same channel. Joining Jimmy Carr, Sean Locke, Jon Richardson, Rachel Riley, Susie Dent and Joe Wilkinson will be comedian Jason Manford, actor Stephen Mangan and actor and performance poet Tim Key in Dictionary Corner.
The 11th series of The Million Pound Drop will make its Channel 4 live debut July 11 at 8:00pm GMT. This series will feature themed games including a blind date special, a “generation gap” game, a workplace special and celebrity games. Celebrity guest teams include Jonathan Ross and his wife and kids, Alan Carr and Nick Grimshaw, stars from Educating Yorkshire and Gogglebox's Stephen Webb and Christopher Steed.
Meanwhile on ITV, a second series of Tipping Point: Lucky Stars is on the rise and is set to premiere Saturday, July 5 at 7:30pm GMT. This series’ guest stars vying for the £20,000 top prize for their charities include Carol Vorderman, Mark Charnock, Joe Swash, Jo Brand and Jonathan Ross.
Spanish and Turkish Production Companies Order “Pull Over”
Spain’s Boomerang TV and Turkey’s HMO have acquired the rights to pick up the Armoza Format ambush game show, Pull Over. The on-location show was developed by Shy Barmeli, who also created the Israeli game show, Raid The Cage. The series has drivers of worn-out cars are pulled over and, instead of being handed a ticket, are given a chance to win a new car by answering a series of question. Avi Armoza, CEO of Armoza Formats, commented, “Turkey and Spain are both strong territories for us with our gameshows. Street gameshows are very popular and Pull Over has a very relatable truth at its heart – everyone would prefer to win a brand new car over getting a speeding ticket”. On a quick end, I’m a little surprised that no U.S. production company has picked up this show yet considering the slew of hidden camera shows we have seen within the past couple of years.
