Billy Gardell Named Host Of Syndicated “Monopoly” Game Show

It looks like Mike and Molly’s Billy Gardell will be added to the list of “comedians-turned-game show hosts”, as he will be the host of the new lottery game show Monopoly Millionaires’ Club. The weekly, hour-long syndicated series, from Scientific Games Corp. and participating state lotteries, is scheduled to premiere in early 2015. The show will air weekly and will serve as a companion television series for the upcoming, multi-state lottery game of the same name. The game tickets will go on sale beginning October 19.

The board game-based game show will be produced in Las Vegas in front of a live studio audience and the contestants will be playing for over $2.5 million in cash per show. The contestants are chosen out of the studio audience and are comprised of participants who won the lottery game. Lottery players must register their tickets online in order to qualify to win the four-night, five-day trip for two to Las Vegas. Gardell stated: "I’ve played Monopoly with friends and family since 1979 […] Hosting a big game show is a bucket list level type of job for me."

This is a very interesting news update because of the fact that TNT also has (or had) plans of developing a reality show version of Monopoly when it was announced during their upfront last year. I hope this lottery game show is as good as Illinois Instant Riches was and not wind up like Make Me Famous, Make Me Rich. Who knows? It could have a similar longevity as The Big Spin did, running for nearly 25 years.
