Touted as one of the more controversial moments in game show history, Larson, an ice cream truck driver, studied the patterns of the Big Board by replaying episodes on his VCR in his home in Ohio. Once he qualified to compete as a contestant on the high-stakes/high-risk game show, Larson proceeded to exploit the flaw in the repetitious sequence of the game board (after a slightly rocky start in the first round) and become the biggest one-day and all-time winner in the short history of Press Your Luck with his $110,237 windfall. GSN reran the episode along with the unaired footage edited out for the original CBS broadcast in 2003 as a part of the network’s documentary, Big Bucks: The Press Your Luck Scandal, and once more in 2006 during GSN’s summer countdown series, The 50 Greatest Game Shows of All Time hosted by Bil Dwyer.
Stay tuned for special Press Your Luck episodes this weekend and next Saturday on BUZZR.
