News In A Flash!: Quick Game Show Updates #100

This was quite the busy news week in the world of game shows. Earlier this week, we had learned that Jamie Foxx will be the host of a “Name That Tune”-style game show called Beat Shazaam, Andy Cohen will be the host of FOX’s Love Connection revival and Starcade is making a comeback. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. This week's update article will take a look at more of the latest US and international game show news from the past week in 200 characters or less.

Millionaire was renewed for another season by ABC O&O stations. This will be the show’s 16th year in syndication. Millionaire showed double-digit year-to-year growth in Households, A25-54 & W25-54.

Lifetime ordered a new relationship game show called My Partner Knows Best. Jason Biggs and Jenny Mollen are tapped to host the series. Ten hourlong episodes were ordered from Propagate.

Channel 4 has officially decided to revive The Crystal Maze for a full series. Twenty hourlong episodes have been ordered with actor/comedian Richard Ayoade as host and will air later this year.

The Price Is Right Live! is headed to the Savannah Civic Center in Savannah, Georgia on March 22 at 7:30pm. Tickets go on sale January 20 at 10:00am for $36.50-$57.50. 

TPIR Live! is also stopping by the HEB Center at Cedar Park in Cedar Park, Texas on March 9 at 7:30pm. Tickets are on sale on Ticketmaster.com and at the venue’s box office.

Phillip Schofield will host the new ITV game show 5 Gold Rings. Scheduled to air this year, the show has two teams compete in a course of five rounds for a chance to win £25,000.


The series debuts of ABC’s Big Fan and Spike’s Caraoke Showdown averaged 3.57 & 2.74M total viewers (1.0 & 0.7 A18-49 rating) and 441,000 total viewers (0.18 A18-49 rating), respectively.

A Lithuanian game show called Guess The Melody was cancelled by the LRT after an episode aired featuring a contestant pantomiming the Nazi salute and shouting “Jew” while describing a Jewish composer.

Hosted by Jon Kelly, the new syndicated comedy game show Funny You Should Ask has announced its guests for its first week. Featured comedians include Howie Mandel, Anthony Anderson and Dave Coulier.

GSN’s newest series Divided and the fourth season of Idiotest and  are set to premiere on the network Thursday, January 19 at 9:00pm and 10:00pm, respectively. Both shows will air two new episodes.
