Good, Better, Best: A Brief Recap of GSN's "Big" Tuesday Night, Including "The Chase" Ratings

Yesterday was a great night for GSN for three reasons: Minute To Win It saw its largest viewing audience all season, The Chase premiered to respectable ratings and GSN history was made. Aside from the premieres of Big Bucks: The Press Your Luck Scandal and The American Bible Challenge, last night was one of the most anticipated events in the history of the network that did not disappoint. Last night, over 1.5 million people watched GSN's schedule of new original shows. Tonight's article will highlight the three aforementioned GSN milestones, and it all begins with "the good".

"Good": As the lead-in to The Chase, Minute To Win It gained its highest ratings the revived series has seen all season, attracting an applaudable total of 596,000 viewers. To put this into perspective, new episodes of GSN's Minute To Win It usually average around 438,000 viewers. The series has not seen ratings over a half million since the series debut. The episode, entitled "Beauty & The Beast", friends Jacob and Charlie could have been the show's first $250,000 winner, before they decided end the game with the $50,000 they had won. Not only does this episode mark the first time a team has bailed out of a game, but also saw its biggest winners the network version has seen to date.

"Better": The Chase is off to a great start by pulling in an impressive 511,000 viewers during the 9:00pm time slot and 461,000 viewers in the 10:00pm slot. While I thought its ratings would be higher, The Chase premiere was up 55% in total viewers, up 87% in adults 18-49, up 95% in women 18-49 and up 112% in women 25-54 compared to the same time period last year. With ratings like this, I think it's safe to say that we will be seeing more of Brooke and Mark. I can not stress enough how well GSN did with bringing The Chase to the States.

"Best": The icing on GSN's primetime cake is the team of Jonathan, Heather and Cory Antonado, the creator of BuzzerBlog, winning $180,000 on the second aired episode ofThe Chase. The team set a new record by winning the most money in the history of GSN original game shows. With all three contestants surviving the Chaser rounds (two of which who took their higher offers), setting the bar high in the final round with 18 steps and narrowly escaping the clutches of The Beast by two steps, the triumphant trio make the game look easy with the big win. If this were the UK version, the team would have won somewhere around £75,000. If you missed both episodes, you will have a second chance to view both on Thursday, August 8 from 8:00pm-10:00pm EST on GSN. You will not regret it.
