Considering how well this series has done on GSN for the two years it has been on the network, this news should not be surprising to anyone. Jeff Foxworthy and musical director and co-host Kirk Franklin will be back next year for another competitive season of The American Bible Challenge. The network has ordered nine episodes for the third season, which is scheduled to premiere in 2014. The show will once again put 18 teams to the ultimate test of Bible trivia. The first team to win three games, or two if they are a "Wild Card" finalist, will win over $140,000 for the charity of their choice. According to Tom Forman, CEO of Relativity Television, The American Bible Challenge is "a show [that] perfectly hits that sweet spot of exciting competition blended with real heart".
Here are some statistics to show you how The American Bible Challenge has been successful in the two years it has been on television:
- Its August 23, 2012 premiere has gathered GSN's highest ratings in the network's 18-year history with 1.7 million total viewers
- The second season saw year-to-year demographics increases of +34% in women 18-49 and +17% women 25-54
- In two seasons, the series has been seen by over 21 million viewers
- The social and mobile platform versions of The American Bible Challenge currently have over five million game plays, nearly 400,000 users, rank as the number one Bible trivia game and are ranked among the top 10 free trivia games on the iPhone
The game show made a few changes for the good last season such as billing Grammy Award-winner Kirk Franklin as the co-host, making slight alterations in its main game and expanding their social media strategy with concepts like choosing the "Fan Favorite" team. If the series continues to make good, strategic moves like the ones I have mentioned, there is no doubt that The American Bible Challenge will continue to build upon its success.
