Beginning today, Wheel of Fortune will be celebrating its 6,000-episode longevity in syndication all week long. Ever since the popular game show knocked off Family Feud out of the top ranking during the 1980s, Wheel of Fortune has been, and is currently, the highest rated syndicated game show in the U.S. Only a handful of game shows have ever been privileged of reaching the 6,000-episode milestone including The Price Is Right, Jeopardy!, and Countdown. To mark the occasion, two Wheel Watchers Club member whose SPIN IDs are revealed will win the temporarily inflated jackpot of $6,000, instead of the usual $5,000 prize and the $5,000 wedge will be replaced with a $6,000 wedge. Also, Pat and Vanna will be reminiscing about some of their memories of the show over its 30-year-history.
Interestingly enough, it wasn’t too long ago that the series celebrated it 30th anniversary. At any rate, stay tuned all this week for Wheel’s “Wheel 6,000 Week”. Until then, let’s take a look at the very first syndicated episode of Wheel of Fortune in 1983.
