News In A Flash!: Quick Game Show Updates #78

This week's quick update article will cover some of the latest game show news headlines from the past few days in 200 characters or less including updates featured on the TBIR Facebook page. News updates include recent game show ratings, big news from Monopoly Millionaires' Club, Alex Jacob's dominant Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions finals performance,  Stephen Fry receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award and an online kickstarter funding campaign which could lead to the production of a documentary based on former "controversial" Jeopardy! champion Arthur Chu. 

Last night on CBC's Canada's Smartest Person, Katy Warren, an engineering student from St. John's, NL, was crowned the season champion during the show's two-hour finale.

Alex Jacob became the winner of the 2015 Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions on Friday’s show. He now has a career Jeopardy! total of $399,802. Matt Jackson won $100,000 and Kerry Greene won $50,000.

A VR experience was created to enable viewers to see what it’s like to go on-set on Friday’s episode of Jeopardy! as well behind-the-scenes footage. The 360ยบ footage can be viewed on Google Cardboard.

This weekend, Elizabeth Davoilio of Hickory, NC became the fourth contestant to win the $1 million grand prize on Monopoly Millionaires’ Club. This is the show’s second million-dollar winner this month. 

On November 30 (Cyber Monday), The Price Is Right is giving home viewers a chance to win some of the same prizes that will be featured on the show including a $1200 appliances gift card and a trip to Lake Tahoe.

ABC’s BattleBots is currently searching for builders and bots to compete in the second season and has revised its design and participation rules for the upcoming season.

QI host Stephen Fry will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2015 Rose d’Or Awards ceremony next month. Fry was flattered, to say the least, according to his tweeted response.

An IndieGogo campaign has begun to raise funds to create an independent film called Who Is Arthur Chu?, a “documentary feature about 11-time Jeopardy! champion and internet iconoclast, Arthur Chu”.

ITV’s 1000 Heartbeats, hosted by Vernon Kay, returns to the network for a second series on Monday. The show will be filming a special episode with Keith Lemon playing for Text Santa on December 18.

FOX Television Stations and Telepictures Productions have green-lit a test run of a TMZ Studios game show called South of Wilshire to air January 4, 2016 on a limited selection of FOX O&O affiliate stations. 

BUZZR is now available in Boston, MA on WLVI channel 56.2 (Comcast 291, Verizon FiOS 465) and Las Vegas, NV on KGNG-LP/LD channel 47.2.
