News In A Flash!: Quick Game Show Updates #97

This week's update article will take a look at the some of the latest US and international game show news from the past week in 200 characters or less. Highlights include a Chaser setting a new record on The Chase, BBC's Make Me An Egghead wrapping up its first series by adding two new Eggheads to the program, the upcoming College online audition test for Jeopardy!, a comedic UK game show headed to MTV in less than a month and some of the latest game show ratings.

What Happened Last Week
On Wednesday’s episode of ITV’s The Chase, Jenny “The Vixen” Ryan set a new UK Final Chase record by taking down the sole contestant to make it to the end game in 24 seconds.

Former Eggheads star CJ de Mooi, whose real name is Joseph Connagh, was arrested at Heathrow Airport on Wednesday for allegations of manslaughter, murder, assault and battery in Amsterdam in 1988.  

Steve Cooke & Beth Webster are the winners of BBC Two’s Make Me An Egghead spinoff series. Cooke beat Gerard Mackay 10-5 in the Men’s finals & Webster defeated Julia Hobbs 10-6 in the Women’s finals.

Rodney Alcala, former contestant on The Dating Game, was charged with murder on Wednesday in connection to the killing of a 28-year-old woman in 1977. Her remains were found in southwest Wyoming. 

Friday's episode of The Price Is Right was quite historic. "Hot Seat" made its debut as the show's newest pricing game and Kimberly Crawford-Buckley was the game's first player and first $20,000 winner.


What's Going On This Week
Some of the celebrity guest stars to appear this week on include Ross Mathews, Mario Lopez, Sheryl Underwood, Taye Diggs and Constance Zimmer.

The Jeopardy! Online College Test takes place this Thursday, September 28 at 8:00pm ET on Jeopardy.com. Go to the show's website for more information on how to register.

The 1,000th episode of ITV’s The Chase airs Thursday, September 28 at 5:00pm. The special milestone episode will have all five resident Chasers compete in each Cashbuilder and the Final Chase.

The Price Is Right Live!  will be heading to Illinois State University in Normal, IL on February 8 at 7:30pm. Jerry Springer will host the performance. Tickets go on sale September 30 at 10:00am.

What's Going On In The Future
New episodes of Hellevator and reruns of the comedic hidden camera series Scare Tactics will be featured in GSN's "Friday Night Frights" block starting October 7 from 9:00-11:00pm ET.

The Wheelmobile will be rolling to the Faneuil Hall Marketplace in Boston, MA on Saturday, October 8 and Sunday, October 9 from 12:00pm-4:00pm to search for contestants to compete on Wheel of Fortune. 

The US version of The Almost Impossible Game Show will be part of MTV’s comedy block beginning Oct. 13 at 10pm ET. The show has six contestants attempt to complete four of six challenges in 40 lives.

The Price Is Right Live! will also be traveling to Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, FL on April 4, 2017 at 7:30pm. Tickets are available at the venue’s box office. Ticket prices range from $25.75-$125.

Alan Carr will host a new show called The Twelve Stars of Christmas. The Channel 4 game show has stars answer questions about topical events in 2016 and gives audience members a chance to win prizes.

Jeopardy’s 2016 Teen Tournament is scheduled to air November 9-22.

Game Show Ratings
Monday’s Match Game season finale averaged 4.4 million total viewers and a 0.9 A18-49 rating. Thursday’s new episode of GSN’s Winsanity averaged 278,000 total viewers and a 0.05 A18-49 rating.
