News In A Flash!: Quick Game Show Updates #64

Today's article will cover some of the latest game show news headlines from the past few days in 200 characters or less. This afternoon's updates include the ratings for the 13th season premiere week of Millionaire and the syndicated series premiere of Celebrity Name Game, two brothers winning the biggest cash prize in Indian game show history, The Price Is Right remodeling two pricing games and HISTORY's Pawnography returning for a second season. All syndication ratings are from the week ending September 14.


Sports Jeopardy! makes its Internet debut today on Crackle. The entertainment media streaming site has released a preview clip on its YouTube site.

Tonight’s Celebrity Squares guest stars include Keith Lemon, Freddie Flintoff, Antony Cotton, Denise Lewis, Hal Cruttenden, Loose Women’s Andrea McLean, Kay Adams Nadia Sawalha, and Rob Beckett.

RuPaul and the show’s three finalists appeared on The Queen Latifah Show Monday to discuss body painting and Skin Wars, whose season finale airs tonight at 8pm followed by the reunion show at 10pm.

BIG WINNERS: Achin and Sarthak Narula became the first contestants to win Kaun Banega Crorepati’s new 7 crore top prize (~$1.14 million USD) earlier this week. 

SECOND SEASON RETURN: Pawnography is currently casting for contestants and looking for audience members to participate in the show’s second season. Tickets are now available on On Camera Audiences.

MORE BIG WINNERS: Kirsten Bayani proved time was on her side by winning $19,438 on the revived version of Time Is Money. The clip is on TPIR YouTube page.

BIG SURPRISE: On Friday, The Price Is Right will unveil its renovated design of Clock Game, one of the show's oldest pricing games. Yahoo! TV has released a preview of the updated game’s premiere.

Next week’s Celebrity Name Game guest stars include Dave Foley, Billy Gardell, Will Sasso, Nicole Sullivan, Vivica A. Fox, Yvette Nicole Brown, Courteney Cox and David Arquette.

On Monday’s episode of CBS’s The Late Show, NCIS star Mark Harmon opened up to David Letterman about his two appearances on The Dating Game.

Whose Line? returns with new episodes Friday, October 3 on The CW with special guest NBA player Matt Barnes.

TruTV will be debuting a new game show in October called Hair Jacked. The series quizzes contestants while getting a haircut. Correct answers = cash; One wrong answer = a ‘hair-raising” haircut.

BAD NEWS: Based on the averages from 52 markets, Celebrity Name Game debuted to subpar ratings in syndication with an average of a 0.7 — a 30% loss compared to the September 2013 time period average. 

In its first week of shows with new host Terry Crews, Millionaire jumped 18% from its dismal series-low the previous week to a 2.0. The bad news is the show is down 5% compared to last year.

Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and Family Feud finished on a positive note for the week. Respectively, the shows saw 5%, 12% and 6% increases in their ratings bringing them up to a 5.8, 5.7 and a 5.0.
