News In A Flash!: Quick Game Show Updates #74

This week's quick update article will cover some of the latest game show news headlines from the past few days in 200 characters or less including updates featured on the TBIR Facebook page. News updates include Stephen Fry stepping down as the host of the curiously entertaining BBC panel game show QI, another contestant winning Channel 4's Deal or No Deal's £250,000 top prize, Alex Trebek donating $1 million to Forham University, the first champion to win GSN's newest competitive reality series Steampunk'd along with the show's $100,000 grand prize, and a few GSN ratings updates.

Ann Crawford, a 75-year-old pensioner from Manchester, became the eighth contestant to win Deal or No Deal's £250,000 grand prize yesterday. The £250,000 and the 50p were the only remaining values in her game. 

The Price Is Right’s 4th Big Money Week ends today and we have only seen one contestant strike it rich in a big money pricing game: Marissa Flinders winning $55,000 playing Shell Game on Monday.

TPIR Big Money Week Update: Sherrie Irving was the second contestant to win big by playing one of the week's super-sized pricing games. Irving won $105,000 in two rolls in Let 'Em Roll on today's show.

The Price Is Right Live! will be coming to Cleveland, OH on February 18, 2016 at Playhouse Square. Tickets are priced between $34 and $59 and will go on sale today at 11:00am CT. 

The top three most voted shows out of the six selected (Trivia Trap, Sale of The Century, Word Play, Double Dare, Beat The Clock,and Now You See It for BUZZR’s Pick & Play block will be unveiled Sunday. 

Ed Thayer, nicknamed “Steampunk Eddie”, became the first $100,000 champion of GSN’s Steampunk’d. Thayer, from Jackson, MI, defeated runner-up Morgan Olson and Josh “JW” Kinsey in the finale.

Matt Jackson ended his run as Jeopardy! champ on Wednesday with a final total of $413,612. The paralegal from Washington D.C. ranks 4th in Most Consecutive Wins and All-Time Regular Episode Winnings.

Alex Trebek has donated $1 million to Fordham University to endow a scholarship designed to provide financial aid to current, full-time and part-time students who live in North Harlem, NY. 

Wheel of Fortune will be filming in portions of East Passyunk Avenue in Philadelphia, PA on Wednesday, October 28 until 6:00pm. 

The upcoming M series of BBC Two’s QI will be host Stephen Fry’s last as he has decided to step down after his 13-year run. Sandi Toksvig will take over as the show’s new host next series.

Next week’s guest stars who will be appearing on Celebrity Name Game include Melissa Peterman, Tom Arnold, Nicole Sullivan, Vivica A. Fox and Colin Mochrie.

ITV has given a full series order to a new daytime game show called Spun Gold. Hosted by Alan Titchmarsh, the show has three teams of two compete in four antique-themed rounds for £1,000. 

Idiotest will be paying a special tribute to the 80’s next Wednesday at 10:00pm ET on GSN.

The Chase returns Friday, November 6 at 8:00pm ET on GSN with all new episodes. This series of episodes features the show's first all-female team and a New York City firefighters team.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT GSN RATINGS: The season finale of Steampunk’d improved 8% to 298,000 total viewers. Idiotest rose in both time slots by 35% & 18% to 311,000 (10pm) & 257,000 (10:30pm) viewers.
