In about a week and a half from today, The Price Is Right and Let's Make A Deal kicks off their respective 43rd and sixth and seasons on CBS daytime. This season of The Price Is Right debuts a revamped version of a retired pricing game and Let's Make A Deal continues to roll out more theme shows including an "unpredictable" April Fool's show.
The Price Is Right Season 43 Updates
The 43rd season of the game show that has been on television for over 50 years will be starting out with a bang with the show reviving a short-lived pricing game called Time Is Money. This was one of the last newer pricing games developed in the Barker era and only lasted for a year from September 2003 - April 2004. In case you've forgotten how it's played (which you more than likely have), a contestant had 20 seconds to arrange five grocery items on three shelves based on the following price ranges: Less Than $3, Between $3-$6 and Over $6. Arranging all five items on the correct shelves wins the contestant a prize. Otherwise, the contestant is told the number of items arranged correctly and has 20 more seconds to make the corrections.
The game, developed by former producer Roger Dobkowitz, was played a little differently the first two times before permanently switching to the aforementioned rules (go to YouTube to check it out). The 2014 version plays the same except there is a max grand prize of $20,000 up for grabs. Judging from the screenshot above of a game in progress, it seems like the cash prize is contingent upon how quickly the contestant can guess the correct combination of the items and their respective price ranges before the "money" clock hits zero. But, this is merely speculation. At any rate, the game is the latest addition to the rookie/revived pricing games that have premiered/returned within the past few seasons including Card Game, Do The Math, Check Game, Double Cross and Pay The Rent.
Other season highlights include the following:
- The "Flat Yodely Guy" Online Campaign - The photo sharing event, already in progress, gives viewers the chance to take the “Flat Yodely Guy”, from the Cliff Hangers pricing game, to interesting places and share their photos for a chance to be featured on the official CBS homepage. You can download a print and/or digital version on the show's website. (I wonder what Flat Stanley thinks about this.)
- Returning Theme Weeks - “Dream Car Week” and "Big Money Week" returns to give contestants a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to win luxurious cars and over $1,000,000 in cash.
- Nationwide Male Model Search Winner Revealed: The winner of The Price Is Right's first-ever nationwide male model search will be announced Monday, December 8. The winner will also make his official modeling debut on the week of December 15.
UPDATE: A video has been released previewing the updated version of Time Is Money, courtesy of CBS Press Express. Needless to say (but, I'm going to say it anyway), this is a vast improvement from the original version.
Let's Make A Deal Season 6 Updates
After winning the series' first-ever Daytime Emmy for "Best Original Song" for the improvised song, "30,000 Reasons To Love Me", Let's Make A Deal returns with Wayne Brady, Jonathan Mangum and Tiffany Coyne helping traders to win big cash and even bigger prizes. Like The Price Is Right, the show will continue to feature themed episodes including “The Clash of the Colleges Special,” a “Grammy Award Tribute Show”, a crazy and unpredictable “April Fool’s Day” show and what should be a very interesting and entertaining “All Singing Musical Episode”.
