News In A Flash!: Quick Game Show Updates #73

This week's quick update article will cover some of the latest game show news headlines from the past few days in 200 characters or less including updates featured on the TBIR Facebook page. News updates include how ITV2's newest physically challenging game show, Almost Impossible Gameshow, performed in its first night out, GSN's record-breaking third quarter performance in nearly all of its demographic ratings, Canada's Smartest Person returning for another season and a few GSN ratings updates.

GSN’s third quarter in 2015 (Jul., Aug., Sep.) was the network’s most-watched quarter in its history in Primetime and Total Day in all key demos (Total Viewers, P18-49, W18-49, P25-54 and W25-54).

Wednesday’s new episodes of GSN's Steampunk’d and Idiotest averaged 270,000 (+5%) and 306,000/268,000 (+3%,-24%) viewers. 

Thursday’s doubleheader new episodes of Chain Reaction averaged 271,000 (-9%) and 354,000 (+11%) total viewers. Geeks Who Drink ended its first season with 357,000 (-7%) viewers tuning in.

The debut of The Almost Impossible Gameshow averaged 174,000 total viewers Thursday evening. The game show attracted an audience that was less than half of ITV2's 400,000 12-month slot average.

Canada’s Smartest Person returns to CBC for a new season tonight at 8:00pm/8:30pm NT. Jessi Cruickshank returns to host the second season.

ABC has renewed 500 Questions for a second season. The primetime game show event, created by Mark Burnett and Mike Darnell, will return to the network in 2016.

David St John has been officially recognized in "Guinness World Records 2016” for “Most TV Appearances As A Contestant” with 34 quiz shows to his credit including Eggheads, The Chase and Wipeout.

Earlier last week, celebrities put their word association skills to the test in another rousing game of Password on The Tonight Show. Jimmy Fallon and Rob Lowe face Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs.

Nicole Butler, from Clovis, CA, became The Price Is Right’s third contestant to win the $100,000 grand prize on “Pay The Rent” during Monday’s Breast Cancer Awareness special.

When asked if he would return to Who Wants To Be A Millionaire if the show were to make a comeback, Chris Tarrant replied, “(...)I wouldn’t want to do it. Been there, done that.”

ITV-Inter Medya has created 15 "unique and original" game show projects in which three will be launched at MIPCOM including Answer If You Can, The League and Celebrities in the Kitchen.
