Quick Review of the Second Season Premiere of ABC’s “500 Questions”
Often billed as the toughest game show ever devised, the endurance quiz show 500 Questions returned to ABC Thursday night with a two-hour season premiere. The second cycle of the week-long event brought new changes including new host Dan Harris, ABC News correspondent and Nightline anchor, and a slightly revised format. While some of the changes improved the show and addressed some of the format issues seen during the first season, there were still a few glaring gaps within the gameplay. Here are the pro and cons to last night’s season premiere of 500 Questions:

Summer 2016 Game Show Tracker
Game show fans will be in for treat this summer with the influx of revivals, renewals, specials and new series flooding the primetime network television airwaves beginning in a couple of weeks. With BuzzerBlog’s announcement of a potential Password revival on ABC, I think this would be a great time to review the game shows as well as some of the new competitive series to look forward to this summer. Much like NBC during the mid- and late-2000s, ABC will be leading the game show herd along with CBS and GSN debuting new shows and specials of their own. ABC Renews “500 Questions” For Second Season
Here’s some interesting and slightly surprising game show news for you this morning: ABC has decided to give the primetime hard quizzer 500 Questions another chance as the show was renewed for a second season. Created by Mark Burnett and Mike Darnell and hosted by CNN’s Richard Quest, the series is scheduled to return in 2016. ABC’s reason for bringing back 500 Questions is due to the network’s continuing effort to "repopularize the trivia-style game show format.” The goal of the game is for contestants, billed as “geniuses”, to answer 500 questions before getting three “wrongs” in a row. Contestants could win over $500,000 if they can complete the daunting challenge.

Casting Calls Galore!
There are several shows nationally and abroad who are searching for people to compete to win cash and prizes on their respective programs. Domestically, FOX’s revival of Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?, Food Network’s newest competition show The Baking Championship, and a “new smart trivia show” (ABC’s 500 Questions according to BuzzerBlog) are holding casting calls for contestants and additional cast members. Internationally in the U.K., ITV’s Celebrity Squares, which was officially recommissioned for a second series by the network earlier this week, will also be holding a casting call next year.
