Game Shows To Watch For The Week of September 21st

Good morning, game show fans! As we enter into the final week of Fall game show premieres, today’s article will highlight first-time and returning game shows making their debut this week as well as a GSN reality show wrapping its first season on Wednesday. The highlighted game shows include Celebrity Name Game, Crackle’s Sports Jeopardy!, CBS’s The Price Is Right and Let’s Make A Deal, the return of ITV2’s Release The Hounds and GSN's Skin Wars.

The Price Is Right & Let’s Make A Deal; September 22; CBS
Drew Carey and Wayne Brady are back at it again and are ready to give away hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash and prizes to contestants and traders. The CBS game shows are set to kickoff their respective 43rd and sixth seasons in daytime beginning this morning. I won’t go into much detail about what’s new for each show since I covered most of what viewers can anticipate this year for both shows in one of my articles a couple of weeks ago. However, I will mention that The Price Is Right will be bringing back one of its lesser-known pricing games, Time Is Money, back this week, if not sooner during today’s episode. This remodeled game with a max grand prize of $20,000 will be one you will not want to miss. Stay tuned and check your local listings for show times.

Celebrity Name Game; September 22; Syndication
Celebrity Name Game, co-produced by FremantleMedia and Debmar-Mercury, makes its series debut today in syndication with host Craig Ferguson. Since I had covered the pending premiere of the show last week, this is merely just a simple reminder to don’t forget to check out the show at least once this week in your area. I’ll have a review of the show published later today.

Release The Hounds; September 22; 9:00pm on ITV2
Moving over to the U.K., the fright-filled, suspenseful game show returns for another series of ITV2. Release The Hounds, hosted by Reggie Yates, takes contestants through a series of scary mental and physical challenges to locate keys that unlock chests of money. If that weren’t bad enough, the contestants must outrun a pack of trained guard dogs in order to win the cash. Like last year, the contestants will need a lot of nerve, bravery and mental and physical ability to win the game and strike it rich. Six episodes have been ordered for the second series and the first of the bunch premieres September 22 at 9:00pm BST on ITV2. Take a peek at a preview of the episode in the clip below...if you dare.

Sports Jeopardy!; September 24; Crackle.com
Speaking of new game show premieres, The third Jeopardy! spinoff, produced by Sony Pictures Television, debuts Wednesday online at Crackle.com with host Dan Patrick. The gameplay is pretty much the same with the exceptions of the tourney-style format, the contestants play for points in lieu of cash in the main game with the winner receiving $5,000 and each category containing only four clues. Viewers will also have the chance to play-along with the show on the mobile game of the same name. Check out my recently archived article “Evening News Updates For August 21, 2014” for more information and to see more snapshots of the set, courtesy of Deadspin. Head over to Crackle now and add the new show to your Watchlist, if you have an account.

Skin Wars; September 24; Season Finale at 9:00pm on GSN
The first season of the GSN body-painting reality show comes to a close this Wednesday. Throughout the season, the competition’s body painters have been competing against each other in a series of artistic challenges to exhibit their abilities to create living art. When it’s all said and done, the winner will receive the grand prize of $100,000. A special season-ending reunion episode featuring all the competitors and judges from the series will air afterwards at 10:00pm. As cynical as I am about this show, I must say, some of the creations are quite impressive as well as the show’s ratings with nearly each new episode averaging more than 500,000 viewers on GSN. We should be hearing news about the renewal of the show in a few months. If you’ve never seen the show before, here your chance to check out a full episode of Skin Wars in the clip below.
