Sony E-mail Leak Shows Alex Trebek Upset At Producers & Sony Executives

Amidst all of the personal messages that have been unveiled to public thanks to the Sony e-mail-hack debacle, a series of e-mails had surfaced yesterday showing an irate Alex Trebek expressing his discontent with the producers and Sony executives after he was asked to re-tape a segment of Jeopardy! during Kids Week due to an incident with a contestant named Gabby Fusco. After the Fusco had ended Double Jeopardy! with -$1,400 and was unable to play in the Final Jeopardy! round on Wednesday’s show, a producer wrote via e-mail that “she was visibly upset” and ran backstage crying with her mother.

"Celebrity Name Game" Expected To Be Renewed For Second Season

After showing a solid household rating average during November sweeps, it looks like Celebrity Name Game might be sticking around for another season. During the sweeps month, The Meredith Vieira Show and Hot Bench, the rookie court show created and produced by Judge Judy Sheindlin, were both renewed for a second season with respective averages of a 1.2 and a 1.7. Debmar Mercury’s Celebrity Name Game and Warner Bros.’ talk show The Real are expected to be renewed after holding steady with a 1.3 and a 1.0 rating. This is a big boost to the U.S. syndicated market after a lackluster performance last year with only one first-year show averaging above a 1.0 (Queen Latifah, 1.1).

STAY TUNED: “The Chase" Season 3 Finale & “Game Show Flashback” Special Tonight

In addition to The Chase wrapping up its third season tonight, GSN will be debuting another retrospect special called Game Show Flashback to air after a rerun of Idiotest. First, at 8:00pm EST, three more brave contestants will be going head-to-head-to-head against Mark Labbett for the final time this season on the network’s version of The Chase. Tonight’s contestants include a woman training to complete a marathon on every continent. So far this season, Labbett has only lost four Final Chases out of the 13 aired episodes thus far, including Seamus Dever and Dean Cain’s $100,000 win. The Chase has averaged about 639,000 viewers for the latter half of the third season.

Casting Calls Galore!

There are several shows nationally and abroad who are searching for people to compete to win cash and prizes on their respective programs. Domestically, FOX’s revival of Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?, Food Network’s newest competition show The Baking Championship, and a “new smart trivia show” (ABC’s 500 Questions according to BuzzerBlog) are holding casting calls for contestants and additional cast members. Internationally in the U.K., ITV’s Celebrity Squares, which was officially recommissioned for a second series by the network earlier this week, will also be holding a casting call next year.

BBC Orders Additional Episodes of "Pointless"/"Pointless Celebrities"

If Family Feud had an evil twin, it would be BBC’s Pointless. Speaking of Pointless, the British broadcaster has renewed the civilian and celebrity versions of the game show, produced by Remarkable Television (an Endemol company) to run for another series. A total of 148 episodes have been ordered for the new series with 110 of Pointless and 38 of Pointless Celebrities, both to air on BBC One. This recent order will take the show close to the 1,000-episode mark. The witty and clever team of Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osmond will return with more challenging trivia and interesting facts. Pointless and Pointless Celebrities are currently in their 12th and seventh series, respectively.
