News In A Flash!: Quick Game Show Updates #91

This week's quick update article will take a look at the some of the latest game show news from the past week in 200 characters or less. This week's highlights include Ken Jennings competing on 500 Questions, the Daytime Emmy Award and Webby Award winners,  the first $100,000 winner of the 33rd season of Wheel of Fortune and Match Game returning to ABC this summer.

The 2016 Jeopardy! Teachers Tournament starts today with 15 of smartest teachers in the nation competing in the two-week event for a chance to win $100,000. 

Legendary Jeopardy! champ Ken Jennings will compete as a contestant during the second season premiere of 500 Questions on May 26. The second season will also feature a two-minute lightning round.

On May 6 during CBS Daytime, Let’s Make A Deal and The Price Is Right will be airing Mother’s Day specials. The Price Is Right special episode will feature an audience filled with expecting mothers.

Celebrity Name Game’s Craig Ferguson won the Daytime Emmy for “Outstanding Game Show Host” for the second consecutive year.

The Price Is Right won the Daytime Emmy for “Outstanding Game Show”, breaking Jeopardy’s two-year winning streak.

The Billy On The Street segment featuring First Lady Michelle Obama, Big Bird and Elena won a Webby Award for best "Online Film & Video – Comedy: Long Form or Series".

Last week, KOB 4 executive producer Mike Brannen became the first $100,000 bonus round winner this season on Wheel of Fortune. Brannen won a total of $117,550.

Last Thursday, ABC announced it would be reviving Match Game with host Alec Baldwin to complete the network’s Sunday summer primetime game show block. The show debuts June 26 at 10:00pm ET.

CBS has renewed it entire daytime programming block including The Price Is Right for a 45th season and Let’s Make A Deal for an eighth season.

ITV’s Rebound has been renewed for a second series and the show is looking for contestants to compete in the upcoming series.

On Tuesday, May 10 at 10:00pm ET, ABC is kicking off the second season of BattleBots with a preview special titled BattleBots: The Gears Awaken. This season’s host will be Samantha Ponder from ESPN.

Mastermind returned to New Zealand’s TV ONE Sunday evening at 7:45pm. Broadcaster Peter Williams is the new host of the revised series.

Mark Burnett, MGM Television and Digital Group president, named game show and reality show producer Barry Poznick president of unscripted television for MGM Television Group.

The Price Is Right Live! will be heading to Club Regent in Winnipeg this fall for four performances on September 24 and September 25 at 4:00 and 8:00pm. Tickets start at $39 and are now on sale.
