NBC has officially given the green light to Ellen DeGeneres’ new series, Ellen’s Game of Games, with a six-episode order. The primetime game show, produced by Warner Horizon Television, is comprised of games featured on Ellen’s daytime talk show including What’s In The Box?, Know Or Go? and Heads Up! – the latter which was picked up as a series on HLN only to be shelved months later. DeGeneres will serve as host and as an executive producer through her studio-based production company A Very Good Production. Mary Connelly, Ed Glavin, Andy Lassner, Kevin Leman, Jeff Kleeman and David A. Hurwitz will also serve as executive producers. Excited for her new primetime series, DeGeneres said, “We’re pulling out all the stops — gigantic sets, hilarious games. It’s going to be like a combination of ‘American Ninja Warrior,’ ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race,’ and a water park. OK, it’s nothing like that, but you should still watch.” No word yet on when the show premieres.

NBC Orders “5 Gold Rings” Pilot Based On ITV Format
This morning, the network has announced its decision to greenlight a pilot episode of 5 Gold Rings based on the UK format developed by Possessed (part of ITV Studios) and Talpa. The US adaptation will be produced by ITV Entertainment. The game is played on an interactive LED floor and teams must answer questions against the clock while placing the five gold rings within the proximity of the correct answer. As the game progresses, the questions get tougher and the rings get smaller. Each incorrect answer costs a team a ring and the team with the most rings after five rounds wins the game. The show is also developing a play-along app for home viewers.

“Hollywood Game Night” Returns For Fourth Season In January 2016
NBC’s veteran hit game show Hollywood Game Night will be coming back to NBC early next year for its fourth season on January 5 at 8:00pm ET. Hosted by Jane Lynch, the series will once again give civilian contestants a chance to play various puzzle and word association party games with some of their favorite celebrities for up to $25,000. Last season, Hollywood Game Night averaged a respectable 1.5 rating among the key Adults 18-49 demographic and an equally laud-worthy 5.3 million viewers overall. The show had also thoroughly defeated its network competition by taking the top spot in every Tuesday 10:00pm time slot last season during the summer.

NBC Orders Ten Episodes of Game Show Based on “QuizUp” App
The network announced their acquisition of the eponymous game show yesterday afternoon. QuizUp will have in-studio contestants attempt to win eight trivia battles against home viewers who play via the mobile app. In order to qualify to compete as a in-studio or home contestant, players will have to pass a weekly trivia quiz. Defeating all eight home-viewing contestants wins the in-studio contestant the $1 million grand prize. Contestants who win their games at home will receive the money attached to the round. The format was created by Jeff Apploff (Don’t Forget The Lyrics) and Wes Kauble (The Newlywed Game) and developed in-house by Universal Television in partnership with Plain Vanilla Corp., the Icelandic game studio that created the game. QuizUp will be shopped by NBCU International Formats at MIPCOM next week. Viewers will have a chance to play-along with the show through the NBC QuizUp live interactive app by answering the same questions as displayed on the broadcasts, even if they don’t qualify for the show. Head to the QuizUp's website for more information on how you can download the addicting social trivia game to your mobile device. INTERNATIONAL UPDATE: ITV has ordered a pilot of QuizUp from NBC Universal International Studios. The show was ordered by Elaine Bedell, ITV's director of entertainment and comedy.
